   Department of Cosmetology
 

Receive a Technical Certificate in this rewarding field in a short period of time. Learn such creative skills as hairstyling, facial treatments, manicures, pedicures, and hair coloring.

The cosmetology program at Phillips College offers students a combination of hands-on training and classroom instruction to help prepare our graduates for the working world.

 

 

TECHNICAL CERTIFICATE

A minimum of 1500 class and laboratory hours is required for the Cosmetology Technical Certificate. This program covers all phases of cosmetology and includes both the standard textbook and the practical aspects of cosmetology. The licensing examination is administered by the Arkansas Department of Health-Cosmetology Section after completing all coursework. 

 

MANICURING CERTIFICATE OF PROFICIENCY

A minimum of 600 class and laboratory hours is needed for this certificate. Approximately one-third of required hours are in the classroom with the remaining hours in the laboratory. 

 

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

To enter the Cosmetology program, students must apply for admission to Phillips Community College.  To apply for admission, students must: 

  • Have a high school diploma or GED;

  • Provide ACT scores or take the ASSET or Compass exam for placement in English and math.  PCCUA offers this free of charge; and

  • Make an appointment with the Cosmetology Department to obtain an application packet.
