Public Law 101-508 Requirements
  1. Use of approved instrument (ASSET/COMPASS)
  2. Independent administration
  3. Passing score standard (as listed above)
Students without a high school diploma or GED certificate are required to meet ability- to-benefit status by achieving or exceeding the minimum scores on each subtest of either the ASSET or COMPASS in a single testing experience.

If the student does not achieve or exceed all three required scores on a single administration, to be eligible for ability-to-benefit status the student must retake the complete instrument (using an alternate form of ASSET; COMPASS automatically generates a different form for each administration) and pass all three subareas on that administration. Passing scores from one administration cannot be combined with passing scores from another administration.
