About your instructor
Alida Gookin started teaching mathematics as an adjunct instructor at Phillips in August 2007. As an adjunct that semester she taught in the ICL Math Lab for fundamental, elementary algebra, and intermediate students. Since then she has also taught college algebra, trigonometry, Math Structures I and II, Praxis preparation, and finite mathematics. In the fall of 2011, she became a fulltime math instructor at PCCUA.
She has taught every level of math from preschool through college calculus in both the classroom and private tutoring. She has taught in public and private schools, as well as at the university level. She homeschooled four of her five daughters for much of their elementary and middle school years and worked to help other homeschooling families in various capacities.
Mrs. Gookin earned her master's degree in mathematics at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Her goal in life is to help others be all they can be in the service of God and others.
