EMT Admission Criteria

Admission Requirements for EMT-Basic

Since enrollment in this course is limited to 20 students, interested students are encouraged to register early. Enrollment in the EMT course is on a first-come, first-served basis. Students who wish to enroll in the EMT-Basic Course must meet the following criteria:

  1. Fulfill all college admission requirements

  2. Submit to the Registrar’s Office official transcripts from all colleges previously attended

  3. Have a minimum PCCUA 2.0 cumulative grade point average in all college courses previously attended

  4. Provide ASSET or COMPASS scores that meet minimum skill level in reading, math, and English for college work or complete all required developmental courses prior to enrolling in EMT 1010 (Developmental Reading, DS 103 and 123, Basic Writing I and II, and Fundamental Math)

  5. Be at least 18 years of age

  6. Provide proof of immunization compliance:
    ·         Current Td
    ·         Current MMR, if born after 1957
    ·         Initiation of Hepatitis B series

  7. Proof of current TB skin test

  8. Provide a recent picture

Students who speak English as a second language must also take the Compass exam to prove proficiency in English by testing into Freshman English I and requiring no developmental reading.

Students are Required to Purchase These Supplies Before Class

  1. Bandage scissors

  2. Protective eye glasses

  3. Stethoscope

  4. Battery operated pen light

After Enrollment

Students are required to:

  1. Take a substance abuse test

  2. Purchase individual liability insurance.  Students must provide proof of liability insurance within 4 weeks of the first class meeting. Students who fail to provide proof of liability insurance within the first 4 weeks will be dropped from the course.
