Course Description:
This course will
introduce students to the basic elements of course and curriculum mapping
essential in instruction at elementary and secondary schools in the United
States with a special emphasis on Arkansas.
|
Course Purpose:
The Purpose of
this course is to teach the application of concepts related to course and
curriculum mapping.
|
|
Course Objectives:
Upon completion of this course students will:
 |
Understand the steps for mapping: data collection,
first read through, mixed group review, large group review, revision,
long term research and development, continuous review. |
 |
Develop and understand reviewing, analyzing and developing curriculum
maps by reading
maps, identifying gaps, identify repetitions, identify areas for
integration, match assessment with standards, review for timeliness. |
 |
Refine maps by asking the essential questions, scope, and sequence. |
 |
Use
maps to generate developmental assessment. |
 |
Develop maps for instruction.

Learning Experiences:
The students will:
 |
Attend all classes and participate in class discussions. |
 |
Respond to the instructor with a three paragraph e-mail message. |
 |
Read
all assigned material. |
 |
Design and explain in writing a disciplinary map. |
 |
Design and report in writing a cross grade curriculum map. |
 |
Design and report in writing a multi disciplinary map. |
 |
Complete a final exam. |
 |
Present the final multi disciplinary map to the group. |
 |
Use the APA
publication guidelines for all written assignments.

Assessment Procedures:
Grading will be determined by:
 | One design 3-4 written pages in length and
include rationales (15 %) |
 | One design 6-8 pages in length-built on the first design
(20%) |
 | One comprehensive multidisciplinary design-built on the first two
designs (30%) |
 | Final Exam (15%) |
 | Presentation of final paper/topical report(15%) |
 | Cooperative Participation (5%)

| 90%-100 = A |
80%-89 = B |
70%-79%= C |
60%-69%= D |
59% -0 =F |

Absences:
Absences from class are discouraged. If a student is absent it is
essential that the instructor be notified ahead of time so that work
missed can be completed.

responsible for doing their own work. It is unethical to copy, plagiarize
or take credit for others work. Further, no student should provide
students with answers or complete work for another student.

Course Packet Articles:
Eight articles/Cases will be supplied to each student as part of the
course packet. These articles are part of the reading assigned. There
will be some on-line sites which students will be required to peruse or
review.
