Microsoft Office 2007, Windows Vista Edition, Introductory. Beskeen, Cram Duffy, Friedrichsen, Reding; Thompson, Course Technology Publishing Company, 2007.

Small Instructions Journal or notebook to fit in a binder
Binder (3 ring) Dividers with pockets (This is to hold your graded and ungraded assignments.)

Purpose and Catalog Course Description:

CT 213 Microcomputer Business Applications

3hrs., 3credits

Prerequisite: Keyboarding and/or computer skills. This course is designed to give the student theory as well as "hands-on" experience with popular software packages, such as a data base, spreadsheet, presentation, and word processing.

Students for Whom the Course Is Intended:

      This course is intended for students who need to obtain a minimal knowledge of Microsoft Office  using: Word 2007 Excel 2007, PowerPoint 2007, Access 2007.

Chapter Objectives:

      Chapter objectives are listed in the student text at the beginning of each chapter. Additionally, please check for lesson information and the assignments page for specific assignments.

Attendance:

 

      Regular class attendance and punctuality are expected. The instructor will call roll at the beginning of class and record those absent. 
      When you know you will miss class ahead of time, let the instructor know and make arrangements to make up any missed work. Assignments missed must be made up on your own time. The instructor's Web Site for this course will list all materials covered and the assignments given.  It is the student's responsibility to initiate and complete missed assignments.

Daily and weekly assignments will include reading and studying the text and turning in assignments.  You will be expected to discuss the material covered in class and answer questions about the material.  All assignments must be turned in on time.  
      You will be responsible for keeping an instruction journal in this class.  Please record assignments and deadlines in this journal.  Please put all graded assignments in your binder. 

Responsibility:

      You are responsible for making up assignments and learning material missed during your absences. This does not release you from submitting your assignments on the due date.

      Most students should be able to finish computer assignments in class. If you need more time, it is your responsibility to come in extra to meet your assignment deadlines. The lab room is  open daily during study halls and may be used during those hours unless there is a class going on in one of them. 

Late Assignments:

      Any assignment turned in late will be subject to a grade reduction or a grade of zero. If an assignment is accepted, late it will receive a letter grade reduction for each day that it is late. No assignments will be graded after taking the unit exams (unless the instructor has stated otherwise).

PCCUA STUDENT DISCIPLINE POLICY:
This instructor will adhere to this discipline policy. A copy of this policy is available both online at the PCCUA website and in the student handbook. It is the students responsibility to read and abide by this policy.

Included in this policy is the Acceptable Use Policy for computer use on campus.

DISHONESTY:

Procedure for Discipline of Cheating and Plagiarism

The responsibility and authority of initiating discipline arising from violations of rules against dishonesty during the process of the course are vested in the instructor of that course.

Plagiarism

Offering the work of another as one’s own without proper acknowledgement is plagiarism. Therefore, any student who fails to give appropriate credit for ideas or materials he/she takes from another, whether fellow student or a resource writer, is guilty of plagiarism. This includes downloading or buying papers from the Internet and cutting and pasting from the Internet without proper acknowledgement.

Cheating  

  1. Copying from another student’s paper

  2. Using any unauthorized assistance in taking quizzes, tests, or examinations

  3. Possession during a test of materials that are not authorized by the person giving the test, such as class notes or specifically designed “crib notes” or any other device or technology that would aid in cheating

  4. Dependence on the aid of sources beyond those authorized by the instructor in writing papers, preparing reports, solving problems, or carrying out assignments

  5. The acquisition, without permission, of tests or other academic material belonging to a member of Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas

  6. Aiding and abetting another person in committing any form of academic dishonesty

Administrative Procedure Number: 404.05

Student Discipline Policy (PCCUA Administrative Procedure 405.01 A description of the incident and the action taken will be reported through the dean to the Vice Chancellor for Instruction and placed in the student's file in the Office of Admissions and Records. The student may appeal either the finding of cheating or the penalty, or both, as described in Administrative Procedure No. 404.06, Academic Appeal Procedure.

Cheating in this class:

 Cheating will not be tolerated.  If you are cheating on one occasion, you will receive an “F” for the whole unit’s work (not limited to that one assignment).  If found cheating on a second occasion, you will be asked to drop the class.  If the cheating occurs after the drop date, or if you choose not to drop, you will receive an "F" for the class.  All work must be on your disk or in your notebook unless the instructor directs you to destroy them.

STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER:  PCCUA Faculty and staff are available in Lab A110 (at the Helena campus) if you need help or have questions about your computer class work; or if you need assistance with email, the Internet, Web Advisor, etc.

FERPA POLICY

Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas complies with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974. A student has the right to inspect and review all of his/her records that meet the definition of educational records. No third party has the right to review student records.

INSURANCE

      Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas does not provide insurance for its students.  The college does encourage each student to secure his/her own insurance, and for that reason, the college has contacted United Healthcare Student Resources.  Forms for this insurance are available in the Registrar’s office.

ACTS

The Arkansas Course Transfer System (ACTS) contains information about the transferability of courses within Arkansas Public Colleges and universities. Students are guaranteed the transfer of applicable credits and the equitable treatment in the application of credits for the admission and degree requirements. Course transferability is not guaranteed for courses listed  in ACTS as “No Comparable Course.” Additionally, courses with a “D” frequently do not transfer and institutional policies may vary. ACTS may be accessed on the Internet by going to  the ADHE Website and selecting Course Transfer.
