TEXT: Pasewark and Pasewark, Microsoft Office 2007 Introductory, Pasewark Series; Thomson Course Technology, 2008

CLASS SUPPLIES:   One flash/jump drive (128 MB or larger), folder for work

The flash/jump drive will be used to save documents created in the lab You may use the same flash/jump drive you are using for the CIS lecture class. It is your responsibility to have your book and your flash/jump drive for every class period.

STUDENTS FOR WHOM THIS LAB IS INTENDED:

1. Students enrolled in the Computer Information Systems Lecture Class.
2.  Students who want to expand their knowledge of computers and gain
experience using software packages which combine word processing,
spreadsheet analysis, database management, creating PowerPoint
        presentations and Internet and e-mail.

PURPOSE OF THE COURSE:

This course is designed to give students a greater knowledge and understanding of the computer system and allow each student to receive “hands on” experience using the computer and learning the software package Microsoft Office 2007.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:

The course objectives are listed at the beginning of each Unit Lesson.  These objectives will be discussed before starting each Lesson.

GRADING

Your CIS lab grade is 25% of your Computer Information Systems class grade.  Your lab grade will be based on the following criteria:

                        Tests and Quizzes                        60%

                        Daily/Weekly Assignments             30%

                        Attendance                                   10%

DAILY/WEEKLY ASSIGNMENTS

Daily/Weekly assignments will include reading and studying the text and turning in assignments. We will work through each Unit lesson together as a class, completing lesson activities together in class. These activities will be turned in for a grade. Students who do not complete the activity in class will be responsible for finishing the activity on their own, outside of class. Open Lab times are posted on the doors of A110 and A107. Students will then be assigned applications to work on their own. If you cannot complete the application during lab time, it will be up to the student to come into lab on their own time and finish the application.  These applications will be graded.  Deadlines will be set for completion of these applications and after the deadline the applications may not be accepted for a grade.  Assignments not turned in will be assigned the grade of Zero. Each student is allowed to drop the two (2) lowest daily/weekly grades at the end of the semester.

You are responsible for making up assignments and learning material missed during your absences. This DOES NOT release you from submitting your assignments on the due date. Class activities and applications are posted on my web site.

LATE ASSIGNMENTS:

The grade on any assignment turned in late will automatically be reduced by the following points:

10 points will be deducted for each class day late on daily/weekly assignments and applications.

QUIZZES & EXAMS

Quizzes on each Lesson; Unit exams

Quizzes and Exams will be given as a hard copy, hands-on assessment.

Exams cannot be made up. You must be in class at the scheduled day and time to take the exam.

CIS LAB ATTENDANCE:

This class attendance policy is in effect for all CIS Lab classes taught by Janet Passmore.  Students will be given 100 points for their initial attendance grade. After each absence, the student will receive a deduction of five (5) points from this attendance grade.

PUNCTUALITY

Roll will be checked each class period.  Please be on time.  Students are expected to be in lab as assigned, prior to the beginning of classroom activities.  Any student entering the classroom after the class roll has been taken will be considered absent. There is one exception to this rule: Students who have been held over by their instructor. (See me immediately after class if you were late because of an emergency situation).

If a student must miss lab, it is that student's responsibility to find out what they missed and make up the work before their next lab.

When you know you will miss class, please let the instructor know and make arrangements to make up any work missed.  It is the student’s responsibility to initiate these arrangements.  Assignments missed must be made up on your own time and any assignments not turned in will be recorded as a ZERO.

POSITIVE ATTENDANCE POLICY:

Students with perfect attendance will be allowed to drop two extra lowest daily grades at the end of the semester. Students with only one absence will be allowed to drop one extra lowest daily grade.

Academic Integrity:

Cheating Policy

Students are expected to uphold the school’s standard of conduct relating to academic honesty.  Students assume full responsibility for the content and integrity of the academic work they submit.  The guiding principle of academic integrity shall be that a student’s submitted work, examinations, reports, and projects must be that of the student’s own work.  Students shall be guilty of violating the honor code if they:

1.      Represent the work of others as their own.

2.      Use or obtain unauthorized assistance in any academic work.

3.      Give unauthorized assistance to other students.

4.      Modify, without instructor approval, an examination, paper, record, or
report for the purpose of obtaining additional credit.

5.       Misrepresent the content of submitted work.

Administrative Procedure Number: 404.05

Cheating in any form (including using unauthorized materials, information, or study aids in any academic exercise; plagiarism; falsification of records; unauthorized possession of examinations; any and all other actions that may improperly affect the evaluation of a student's academic performance or achievement; and assisting others in any such act) is forbidden. An instructor who has proof that a student is guilty of cheating may take appropriate action up to and including assigning the student a grade of "F" for the course and suspending the student from class. A description of the incident and the action taken will be reported through the dean to the Vice Chancellor for Instruction and placed in the student's file in the Office of Admissions and Records. The student may appeal either the finding of cheating or the penalty, or both, as described in Administrative Procedure No. 404.06, Academic Appeal Procedure.

Cheating in this class:

Cheating will not be tolerated.  If you are cheating on one occasion, you will receive a “0” for the whole lesson's work (not limited to that one assignment).  If found cheating on a second occasion, you will receive a "0" for the entire lab class.  All work must be on your jump drive and in your notebook unless the instructor directs you to destroy them.

STANDARDS OF BEHAVIOR
