Select two of the following Response Questions: Due Oct. 9 ( Thurs.12:00 noon) 1. Describe the steps/process by which Arkansas entered the Union. Be sure to include the impact of the Missouri Compromise, Nat Turner's Rebellion, the supporters, those opposed to statehood on the push for statehood in Arkansas. 2. Briefly describe the removal of the Quapaw, Cherokee, Caddo from the southeast. Why did Jackson want Indian removal? Why did few people oppose removal? 3. While Robert Crittenden was important to the territory, why did he fail to achieve the greatness (fame, wealth) that he aspired to? what happened to his career/life. 4. Describe life on a farm in Arkansas during the first half of the 19th century. (You may write about farm life or plantation life) 5. Describe the life of slaves in Arkansas during the first half of the 19th century. 6. What were the major religious groups of Arkansas, what was their influence on the life of the people, education, morals etc. Be sure to include the Second Great Awakening. 7. We tend to forget that Arkansas was a frontier territory and state for most of the 19th century. Describe several incidents/episodes/examples of the history of the territory/state which demonstrate that this was a frontier. Type II: Major Errors (-5 pts. each) A. comma between subject and verb(comma fault) (ex. The mother,gave her son the apple.) B. comma splice (ex. We went to the store,we got some bread and milk.) C. failure to show possession (ex. My husband pants are dirty.) D. no indentation at beginning of paragraph and incorrect paragraph form. Type III: Minor Errors ( -2 pts. each) A. misspelled words or incorrect capitalization B. misused homonyms or words used incorrectly C. commas added unnecessarily or commas lacking D. punctuation missing or incorrect E. incorrect pronoun agreement F. misleading pronoun reference G. unnecessary shift of tense or person H. words left out/dangling or misplaced modifiers.
