GOAL SPEECH

Your next speaking assignment is a goal speech.  Your topic is to be chosen based upon a “real life” goal you have for yourself.  This goal may be either a short term, or long term goal.  It should be two to three minutes in length.

Some examples:
to loose weight
to save money
to quit smoking
to be a better student, parent or spouse
to get a bachelor’s degree
to become a self-made millionaire in 10 years

You are to have 3 main points in the body of the speech.  These main points should be derived from one of the following two methods.
1.  The 3 ways you plan to achieve your goal
2.  The 3 reasons you have chosen this goal

Then each of the main points should have specific support and illustration.

Example:
If my goal was to have a regular exercise program, my main points and the support might be as follows:

I.  To build muscle mass.

A.  Use weight machine at PCC 3 times a week

B.  To increase weight and repetitions every two weeks.

II.  To increase cardiovascular system

A.  To walk/run one mile every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday

B.  To start walking more places and driving less

(You get the idea)

Once you have the Body of your speech completed (your three main points and their support) then you must decide on your introduction and conclusion.  Here is what your completed outline should look like.  It must be typed in all capitals and double spaced.
