Course Objective:
An examination of theatre’s
literature, history, physical structures, and production crafts, designed
to enhance the beginning student’s understanding of theatre as a human
discipline and an art form.
Each student will be introduced to and
participate in the various elements that are involved in theatre arts:

Acting/improvisation

Directing

Scene design

Lighting design

Costume design

Stage make-up

Publicity

Script interpretation

Criticism

Production techniques
Requirements:
Each student is required to read the
script for each production of the theatre department.
Each student must read any theatre
periodical, and turn in a paper of 5 articles of their choice.
Each student must work on the theatre
department’s production and the Warfield Concert Series.
Each student is required to attend and
write a critique of the theatre production and a Warfield Concert.
Grading:
Each student will be evaluated on their
success and effectiveness in meeting the above requirements.

Attendance Policy:
Each student is
allowed 3 absences during the semester. Additional absences will result in
the lowering of your final grade by one letter.
Emergencies, medical conditions, or unforeseen circumstances
resulting in absences beyond 3 days may be excused at the discretion of
the instructor. Please notify
the instructor before the class is missed.
Each student is responsible for making up class work, assignments,
tests, etc. due to absences. Being
tardy 3 times will constitute 1 absence.
