New PCCUA workforce training coordinator to assist community needs

            Joe St. Columbia, Jr., has joined Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA)-Helena and is ready to assist employers in the area of workforce training.

St. Columbia is an energetic, self-starting individual who will be working with local businesses and industries to develop, schedule and provide instruction for and training in support of economic and workforce development for Phillips and Arkansas counties and contiguous service areas.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Delta State University in Cleveland, MS, and has over 25 years of experience in customer service management and employee management and over five years of corporate training.

In this position, he will be responsible for assisting with the implementation and evaluation of business and industry training and workforce development courses, programming and activities and developing and implementing courses and programs designed to meet the training and development needs of the PCCUA service areas. St. Columbia will be visiting area businesses and industries and attending Chamber of Commerce and other community functions in the PCCUA service areas related to workforce production and training.

St. Columbia will also be involved in the work of the Arkansas Delta Training and Education Consortium (ADTEC) and the Arkansas Delta Accelerating Pathways Together (ADAPT) initiative.

ADTEC was created in 2005 and is a collaborative effort of five community colleges in eastern Arkansas (PCCUA, Arkansas Northeastern College, Arkansas State University Mid-South, Arkansas State University-Newport, and East Arkansas Community College) to use their collective resources to address current and future workforce training needs of business and industry.   

The ADAPT initiative, which St. Columbia will oversee, is directly related to improving manufacturing and transportation and work readiness efforts in the region.

A Helena-West Helena native, St. Columbia previously worked for Sibley Supply Company in West Helena as purchasing manager and prior to that served as sales and operations manager for hhgregg in Southaven, MS.
