PCCUA introduces newly hired women’s basketball head coach Shareka Maner

PCCUA excitedly announces that Shareka Maner, of Spring Hill, FL, has been hired as the women’s head coach as PCCUA works diligently toward resurrecting its collegiate basketball teams for this fall.

Maner comes to Phillips with past experience as a women’s collegiate basketball coach and assistant coach, who over the years has honed effective communication skills needed to inspire her student athletes to be their best, both on and off the court.

Excited to welcome Maner to Phillips County, PCCUA Athletic Director Kevin Martin Arnold stated, “Coach Maner comes with a lot of experience and enthusiasm for the game, and we are excited to have her joining us as the first women’s basketball coach we have had here at Phillips in over 30 years.”

Anxious to be here and already getting things in place to start recruitment, Maner stated,“I’m excited about this new journey and to be the first coach in decades to coach a women’s team here. I am anxious to begin working with everyone and getthings off the ground.”

Maner holds a B.S. degree in sport management and an M.S. in sport administration from Henderson State University. She brings with her six years of collegiate coaching experience: two years as a National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) head coach, one year as a Northwest Athletic Conference head coach, one year as a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I interim head coach, and two years as an NJCAA Division I assistant coach.

Maner served as head women’s basketball coach at St. Andrews University in Laurinburg, NC, from 2021-2023 and at Grays Harbor College in Aberdeen, WA, from 2020-2021. Prior to that, she fulfilled the position of assistant women’s basketball coach at Cochise Community College at Douglas, AZ, from 2019-2020, as well as at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Rangely, CO, from 2018-2019. From 2017-2018, she acted as interim head women’s basketball coach/instructor varsity basketball I & II at Colby Community College in Colby, KS. Maner earlier served as assistant women’s basketball coach, also at Colby Community College, in 2017.

Among her key accomplishments have been sending multiple players to the First-Team, Second-Team, and All-Academic and All-Freshman teams in the American Athletic Conference along with high graduation rates. She is also proud of her recruitment record for new and returning athletes, the strong rapport she has built with athletes during and after their seasons, and holding them to high academic and discipline standards.
