With prom and graduation approaching, the Career & Technology Center students on the Helena campus used drunk driving simulators to promote safe driving. Students used Fatal Vision Goggles to demonstrate the vision and danger of an impaired driver with a blood alcohol level ranging from .07 to .25 with day and night goggles. They also participated using Marijuana Goggles and Traumatic Brain Injury Goggles. The hands-on lesson was led by instructor Laketha Fluker and PCCUA Police Officer Carle Nelson. Students also learned the Social Host Liability Law as well as the Dram Shop Law. The Helena-West Helena curfew ordinance was discussed, and students were made aware of the curfew hours for weekdays and weekends. Research shows an increase in distracted and impaired driving on our roadways. We want our students to have fun and to make sure they are safe. Students were encouraged not to be afraid to reach out to their parents or a personal contact before driving or riding with someone impaired.
