Former Ridge Runner basketball player excited about Ridge Runner team comeback

A former Ridge Runner basketball player is excited about plans for this year’s Ridge Runner team comeback! PCCUA had a surprise visit this morning from a former Ridge Runner player, who still lives in Phillips County.

Winston Turner, of Marvell, played as a guard (#14) on the Ridge Runner team during the 1974-75 season and brought with him a sports program highlighting the coaches, players, and team stats. Having heard PCCUA’s announcement of bringing basketball back to PCCUA, Turner has been following along with the developments of our new athletic program and gym renovation and is excited that we are bringing it back.

Turner met PCCUA Athletic Director Kevin Martin Arnold, Chancellor Dr. Keith Pinchback, and Vice Chancellor Rhonda St. Columbia, who were all excited to meet him and hear his fond memories of playing for Phillips College. Turner is also planning to attend some of the games, which will get underway in mid-November.

As PCCUA gears up to kick off its first collegiate basketball season in over 32 years this fall, the College is looking to hear from and meet other former Ridge Runners, who played during the early years of the College from the late 60’s through the 70s and 80s. Former players may call Arnold at 870-338-6474, ext. 1363.
