Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas is proud to announce Joseph Whitfield as the 2026 commencement speaker for the Helena Campus graduation ceremony.

Whitfield is a dedicated public servant, educator, and community advocate with a deep commitment to the city of Helena‑West Helena. Appointed mayor in October 2025, he brings a strong background in education, leadership, and civic engagement to his role.

A graduate of KIPP Delta Collegiate High School, Class of 2011, Whitfield pursued higher education with a focus on both academic excellence and service. He earned his undergraduate degree from Colby College and a master’s degree from the Relay Graduate School of Education in New York, preparing him for a career centered on leadership and impact.

Whitfield spent eight years as a classroom teacher and one year as an assistant principal, experiences that shaped his belief in the power of education to transform individuals and communities. Beyond the classroom, he has served as Director for Delta Magic, the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce and the Phillips Community College Foundation Board, working to strengthen economic development, community partnerships, and regional vitality.  A dedicated supporter of PCCUA, Whitfield is a familiar presence at Ridge Runner basketball games, where he can often be found enthusiastically cheering on our student-athletes.

Driven by a passion for service, Whitfield is committed to organizations and initiatives that work toward making Helena‑West Helena not only a better place to live, but a destination that reflects pride, resilience, and opportunity. His leadership is rooted in collaboration, vision, and a steadfast belief in the future of his community.

PCCUA is honored to welcome Joseph Whitfield as this year’s Helena Campus commencement speaker and looks forward to celebrating the achievements of the Class of 2026.
