Outstanding in Allied Health: Sky Porter's PCCUA Success Story
Posted Date: 7/28/25

Sky Porter’s journey into healthcare began close to home — literally and figuratively. As a proud graduate of Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA), Porter attributes her nursing success to the structure, support, and strong foundation she received right in her hometown. “I wasn’t fully ready to move out into the world just yet,” Porter shared. “PCCUA gave me the guidance I needed, and felt like a second home, just 13 minutes down the road.” That familiarity, paired with academic rigor and a nurturing environment, helped Porter stay grounded while pursuing her goals. Thanks to PCCUA’s scholarship opportunities and dedicated faculty, she was able to graduate debt-free and with confidence.

Porter credits much of her success in passing the NCLEX-PN to the technology-driven learning provided through the college’s use of ATI. With access to tutorials on skills, pharmacology, dosage calculations, and interactive case studies, Porter maximized every opportunity to master her coursework. “I practiced on ATI every chance I had,” she explained. “By the third semester, an instructor even walked us through the NCLEX book to help break things down. I recommend no student miss those sessions.”

When asked for her advice to future nursing students, Porter didn’t hesitate: “Be prepared for the unknown. Believe in yourself and surround yourself with a supportive village. Discipline and faith will carry you far. And definitely, pick up that Bible before that nursing book!”

Porter graduated from PCCUA with an AAS in General Education in 2023 and earned her LPN certificate in 2025. She was also named an Outstanding Student in the Allied Health Division. Porter successfully passed the PN-NCLEX with 85 questions on her first attempt and is now beginning her professional journey at the UAMS Urology Clinic. Her long-term goal is to further her education and keep her promise to uphold the ethics and compassion rooted in her upbringing: “Every generation has to be greater than the one before.”
