PCCUA announces Quattlebaum as new vice chancellor for instruction
Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA) proudly announces that Monica Quattlebaum, former Dean of Business and Information Systems, has been named as PCCUA’s new Vice Chancellor for Instruction. She is replacing retiring Vice Chancellor Dr. Deborah King.
Quattlebaum says Phillips Community College has always been an important part of her life, continuing the educational legacy that began with her father, James Brasel, who started his 42-year career at PCCUA in 1968.
“During his tenure, he instilled in me alove for the College and our community that left a lasting impact to guide my future and career,” said Quattlebaum.
Following in his footsteps, she began her own career in 1995 serving first as a faculty member and later as a department chair and dean. Through her years at the College, Quattlebaum developed her own passion and love for PCCUA along with a deep desire to continue the great work and impact that this institution has made on the lives of so many people.
Quattlebaum received an A.A. Degree in business administration at PCCUA, a B.S. degree from Arkansas State University and an M.Ed. from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville. She has been actively engaged in numerous college activities, including student orientation, graduation, and special events, as well as serving on committees, such as Instruction and Curriculum, Assessment (chair), Recruitment and Retention, Strategic Planning, Foundations of Excellence Team Leader for the Learning Dimension, Achieving the Dream Core Team member, and Student Success.
Further, she has maintained accreditation for the division through the Accreditation Council of Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), supervised the Cosmetology Department, and wrote a comprehensive National Science Foundation grant called Arkansas Delta Information Systems and Cyber (DISC), which provided her division with thousands of dollars for technology innovations. Quattlebaum also served on the Faculty Senate for 18 years, including a term as president. Her dedication to her profession and her students has led to special recognition as Outstanding Alumni in 2003, and Outstanding Faculty in 2004 and 2009.
In her new position, Quattlebaum will have direct ties and oversight for all academic programs along with Career Pathways, GEAR UP, Higher Learning Commission (HLC), HLC Academy Team, Assessment Committee, and several grants including the National Science Foundation grants, Workforce Regional Grants, and Carl Perkins.
Quattlebaum sees education as a lifelong learning experience that brings confidence and a hope for a better future.
“Seeing students accomplish their educational goals to graduate in career fields that they only dream about is what motivates me to help PCCUA provide quality academic programs,” she said. “I am honored to be selected as Vice Chancellor of Instruction and given the opportunity to make a difference in our students and the communities we serve.”
