The TTOP and Ready for Life students enrolled in Construction I and Construction II are currently engaged in the demolition of the old greenhouse located behind the T&I Building on the Helena Campus. Over time, the structure had deteriorated and become both an unsafe area and an eyesore. This project not only improves the appearance and safety of the campus, but also provides students with valuable, hands-on experience in real-world construction practices.
Throughout the process, students are learning the importance of sustainability and resource management. Rather than simply discarding materials, they are carefully dismantling the structure and salvaging usable components. From reclaiming and planning old wood and timbers to sorting and reusing screws and hardware, students are gaining practical skills in recycling and repurposing building materials. This approach reinforces craftsmanship, environmental responsibility, and cost-effective construction methods.
The reclaimed materials will be used to construct a new student pavilion. Once completed, the pavilion will serve as a welcoming outdoor space where students can relax, gather, and enjoy campus life. Equipped with a BBQ pit, Electrical outlets and phone charging stations, the pavilion will provide a comfortable setting for fellowship, study breaks, and special events—creating a lasting space built by students, for students.
