Phillips Community College Construction instructor Jacob Walker istaking our Construction I class to new horizons with virtual reality headsets. The headsets along with software were purchased through a grant offered by theOffice of Skills Development in cooperation with the PCCUA's Secondary Centerand PCCUA Workforce Training Department.
Virtual reality training combines the aptitude to simulate real-worldtraining scenarios in a virtual reality headset with the ability to preciselymeasure execution. Students are captivated by the experience and can engagewith interactive objects that augment their understanding of complex ideas. This technology has created a paradigm shift.
The construction students are enthusiastically learning electrical, construction, safety and HVAC. Walker commented “the use of virtualreality for training in high-risk environments, like construction, is aninnovative way to ensure students are well-prepared for real-world challengeswhile maintaining their safety during the learning process.” For moreinformation about these classes, contact Joe St. Columbia 870-338-6474, ext.1937 or jscolumbia@pccua.edu.
