PCCUA-Stuttgart Secondary Center students engaged in valuable learning experiences

Amanda West, career and tech coordinator and med pro instructor for the Stuttgart Secondary Center, reported that the PCCUA-Stuttgart Career & Technical Center has had an incredibly busy and exciting second nine weeks filled with valuable learning experiences and engaging activities.

One of the most exciting activities this semester was when Pafford generously sent a flight crew and helicopter to showcase a day in the life of a flight nurse. This extraordinary opportunity allowed the Secondary Center students to witness, firsthand, the dedication, skills, and challenges faced by these healthcare professionals.

“We extend our deepest gratitude to Pafford for making this unforgettable experience possible,” said West.

In their criminal justice classes, students have been studying the field of forensic anthropology. Through hands-on activities and using models, students have learned skills to determine gender, ethnicity, age, and estimated height. This practical approach has provided them with invaluable knowledge and insights into the world of forensic science. In anatomy, students worked on understanding the intricate process of wound healing in the human body. As part of their project, they were tasked with illustrating this process, allowing them to explore the stages of healing and gain a deeper appreciation for the body's remarkable ability to recover. The medical professional students dedicated their time to studying how carbohydrates affect the human body and the vital role of good nutrition in patient care. Equipped with this knowledge, they are now better prepared to educate their future patients on the significance of a balanced diet and its impact on overall health.

”With the start of the new year just around the corner, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead,” said West. “The year 2024 promises to be filled with fresh chances for our students to continue expanding their knowledge, pursuing their passions, and embracing new experiences.”
