PCCUA welcomes new WiCyS Student Chapter inductees

 

Ten new students have been inducted into the Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) Student Chapter at Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA) under the direction of advisors Charlotte Purdy, Monica Quattlebaum, and Cynthia Grove. The focus of the chapter is to encourage more females to become interested in cyber technology.

Induction ceremonies were held in Phillips County (Helena campus) on Monday, April 29, and in Arkansas County (Suttgart campus) on Tuesday, April 30, 2024. The new inductees in Phillips County were Damien Burkins, Sametrious Jones, Aubrey Tyler, and Jarvis Banks. Inductees in Arkansas County included Marrissa Harris, Austin Brewer, Ashley Allen, Shanika Moten, Sarah Lyons, and Lisa Herrera. 

Two of the founding members of the chapter, Megan Pruett (Phillips County) and Gloria Peabody (Arkansas County), were presented honors cords by advisor Charlotte Purdy. Pruett and Peabody are 2024 PCCUA graduates. 

Women in Cybersecurity (WiCyS) was founded in 2013 by Dr. Ambareen Siraj through a National Science Foundation grant and is dedicated to bringing together women in cyber security. Through the WiCyS Student Chapter, students will be provided with support, mentorship, training, networking opportunities, and access to industry and academic leaders.
