Student demonstrates fun, new technology now in use in the Information Systems program

Students are having fun learning how to use some new and exciting technology that has just landed in our Information Systems program!

PCCUA instructor Charlotte Purdy said students, like Matthew Dunigan, in the Information Systems program are getting the feel for this new technology that is taking programming and coding to a new level with the addition of new Sphero robot balls. Purdy explained that students are using their programming/coding skills they’ve learned to program the Sphero balls to navigate a golf course, bowling alley, hazard cones, and soccer field. By programming the Sphero Bolt and Sphero Mini robots, students are learning how to start the course, stop at specific spots, make angle turns, and navigate through the course based on the codes they write. The students will also be learning to use a 3D printer to create a "robot body" for the Sphero ball by the end of the semester.

If you are interested in entering this exciting field, contact Monica Quattlebaum (Helena) at 870-338-6474, ext. 1331, or Purdy (DeWitt/Stuttgart) ext. 1846.
