Phillips Community College of the University of Arkansas (PCCUA) is proud to announce the future development of the new Workforce Training Center in Helena. This initiative marks a transformative investment in workforce development for Eastern Arkansas and the Delta region.
With record-low labor participation rates and limited job opportunities in the Delta, PCCUA is taking action to address these challenges through strategic partnerships and training programs aimed at preparing individuals for meaningful employment. The center will offer customized training solutions aligned with industry needs in areas such as construction, manufacturing, welding, CDL, HVAC, health sciences, artificial intelligence, and more.
On June 11, 2025, Joe St. Columbia led the presentation of the proposed center to 25 members of the Phillips County Industrial Council, with additional insight and support from Monica Quattlebaum. The two outlined plans for equipping both high school and adult learners with the tools to succeed in high-demand careers.
The facility will also serve as a meeting space for industry partners and foster collaboration between businesses and education providers to ensure the region’s workforce remains competitive and prepared. With projected outcomes including a 30% increase in student enrollment, a 20% boost in incumbent worker upskilling, and a 15% improvement in job placement, the Workforce Training Center is expected to fuel economic growth and long-term prosperity in the region.
